Agra to Ranthambore National Park

Today was a 7 hour drive through villages . The rain had cleared but it is still hazy. We again saw so much of Indian life.  Passing from the state of Uttar Pradesh to Rajasthan  , we saw changes such as the use of camels rather than oxen and horses and more western clothes on men , think jeans.

School children crowded in a tuktuk with backpacks on top

A Catholic church. Mother Teresa's nuns have a convent next door

Those of you who followed us in Turkey know there were cats everywhere.  In India there are dogs.

And monkeys
Scaffolding is made of bamboo even in Delhi

These are the brooms used in the streets. No street cleaning trucks.  Most of the streets in the towns are unpaved dirt

Rajasthan  is a center of marble work\

This woman working the marble covered her face when she saw me taking her picture. Some keep their faces covered all the time in public

Most trucks and tractors are decorated with flowers and other colorful things

Friday is the Hindu holy day as well as Muslim . This is a Hindu procession.
 Not an unusual sight

Local bus

Building supports are also bamboo

  1. One memory I have of India are all the different modes of transport what could find on the roads. Cart pulled by buffaloes, camels, people... And all blending quite well most of the time... The danger was at night when a camel driven cart had no light and you just barrelled on it.

  2. I have never been to Rathambore, where one could see tigers. It always seemed very romantic, in a very Indian sort of way :-)
